Sinus bradycardia treated by long-term atrial pacing.

چکیده
A technique for long-term atrial pacing is described. It uses the system whereby power from an external pulse-generator (including battery) is transferred through the intact skin by inductive-coupling. Once installed, there is no requirement for further surgery to effect battery changes, and the patient can control his heart rate over a wide range to suit his needs. It is suggested that pacing by such means may offer a preferable alternative to drug therapy in the treatment of low cardiac output due to pathological sinus bradycardia. Two patients successfully treated in this way are reported.

[Clinical safety and efficacy of single-chamber atrial pacing in sick sinus syndrome: long-term follow-up].
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Although atrial pacing is a more physiological mode of stimulation in sinus node dysfunction, the pacing modes most often are used DDD and VVI. The aim of our study was to demonstrate that AAI/AAIR pacing is effective and safe by analyzing the complications and mortality of this pacing mode in a long-term follow-up study. PATIENTS AND METHOD Between 1982 and 2000 d...
متن کاملLong-term outcome of patients with drug-refractory atrial flutter and fibrillation after single- and dual-site right atrial pacing for arrhythmia prevention.
OBJECTIVES An initial crossover study comparing dual- and single-site right atrial pacing was performed followed by a long-term efficacy and safety evaluation of dual-site right atrial pacing in patients with drug-refractory atrial fibrillation (AF). Also examined was the efficacy of two single-site right atrial pacing modes (high right atrium and coronary sinus ostium) and the long-term need f...
متن کاملPredictors of loss of atrioventricular synchrony in single lead VDD pacing.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate maintenance of proper VDD function, defined as persistence of sinus rhythm with atrial synchronous ventricular pacing, and to define factors predicting failure of the VDD mode in patients with atrioventricular (AV) block and normal sinus function. DESIGN Observational study in 86 consecutive patients (mean (SD) age 74 (12) years; 38 women, 48 men) with single lead VDD pa...
متن کاملAtrial ectopic activity associated with sinus bradycardia.
Five cases of atrial ectopic activity associated with sinus bradyeardia are reported. The ectopic activity was abolished in all cases when the sinus rate was increased spontaneously or by atropine. The report demonstrated that the incidence of ectopic activity increases in the atrium at the slower basic rates as it does in the ventricle. It was emphasized that atrial ectopic activity associated...
متن کاملCardiac Arrest Caused by Torsades de Pointes Tachycardia after Successful Atrial Flutter Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation
A 66-year-old woman underwent successful radiofrequency catheter ablation for long-lasting, drug refractory fast atrial flutter. Two days later she had a cardiac arrest due to torsades de pointes (TdP) tachycardia attributed to relative sinus bradycardia and QT interval prolongation. After successful resuscitation further episodes of TdP occurred, which were treated with temporary pacing. Becau...
